Gooooooooonnnnnng!

As tools go, the gong is the gold standard for stilling our messy minds. 😵‍💫

Not had a go? Imagine a vibrational experience that ripples through your muscles, joints, bones and organs; travelling right down into your cells and beyond. 🦠🧬

There's a ton of geeky neuroscience out there that talks about the impact of specific sound frequencies on the brain and body. 🧠🧪

Studies show that when a tone is played in one ear and a slightly different tone is played in the other, the difference causes the brain to create an auditory hallucination (if there's such a term - don't quote me!). This third tone, which is a figment of our imagination, is known as the 'binaural beat'. 🔊

Put simply, it's a sign that our brain has said "sod this" and given up; allowing the left and right hemispheres to naturally harmonise and sync up.

Why is this important?

When our brain hemispheres are balanced, we produce THETA brainwaves. This is where all the juicy goodness is. ❗

It's important in my line of work, since integration is a huge part of overcoming emotional trauma. It's a process that takes place on its own terms and requires a gentle easing, back into everyday experience. 😀

I like to think of the gong as a fast track to this state, making it perfect for busy city life, with all its device addiction and zero down time. 📱

Need convincing? This sexy quote has it ALL:

The juncture between Alpha and Theta brainwaves is often called the crossover point by neuroscientists. Here, subjects have experienced “seemingly miraculous resolutions of complex psychological problems” including a significant reduction in anxiety levels.

Are gongs the answer?

NO! Because YOU are the answer. Plus you're not broken and you don't need fixing. 💁

However, the way you show up before, during and after any process is important.

So the gong could well be a good short term addition to your routine. Especially if you're figuring things out in the u-bend of life (as we all are from time to time).
