Pride is a protest
Corporate pride is awash with, "Love is love!" platitudes drowning out the darker message that,"Trans people are in danger" (It probably doesn't look that sexy printed on a sandwich). 🥪
🏳️⚧️ So this year I'm saving myself for Trans Pride on July 8th. 🏳️⚧️
☝️ Pride has nothing to do with who we sleep with and everything to do with the fact that we survived a prolonged and systemic campaign of violence from social, political and religious institutions.
🙄 The Telegraph (or Tory-graph) spelled out their intentions for Pride month this week:
"Time to reject the extreme trans lobby from harming our society" --A clarion call for the tidal wave of hatred, gathering momentum in the lead up to the UK election.
How bad could it get?
🇺🇸 We only need to look to the US where 500 pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation have been introduced this year alone
😣 Bathroom bills
😣 Restrictions on trans content in libraries and schools
😣 Restrictions on drag performances
😣 Bills forcing teachers to out students they perceive to be trans
😣 Entire states (Texas and Florida) attempting to gain powers to remove trans youth from parental custody.
Target have even begun to remove pride merchandise from stores, fearing a violent backlash. 😢
🇬🇧 So as the UK Tory culture war continues to gather momentum, it's no longer possible to sit outside the debate for LGBTQ rights.
❣️ Queer culture is open to ALL - regardless of how you identify and who you sleep with.
It's time to call out the Tories for falling far short of its promises to reform the gender recognition act.
